About David Diehm: Capturing Stories Through the Lens

I am a Newcastle-based photographer passionate about capturing images that tell a story and create a meaningful connection with my audience. My journey into photography began in 2012 when my late father loaned me his camera for my honeymoon in New Zealand. That experience ignited a deep appreciation for the art of photography and its ability to preserve fleeting moments in time.

Spending time in nature—trekking, exploring, and discovering—is an integral part of my life and my young family’s journey. It is how we connect, learn, and appreciate the beauty of our planet. In an era of constant digital engagement, I believe in the importance of disconnecting to reconnect with the natural world. Photography allows me to express this connection, capturing the intricate details and breathtaking landscapes that surround us.

Each image I create is more than just a photograph—it is a story, a moment, and a reflection of nature’s true beauty. Through my work, I aim to inspire others to pause, appreciate, and immerse themselves in the wonder of the world around them.

“The natural beauty of the Hunter Region provides an abundant playground of opportunity to pursue my love of photography”.

A Country Childhood

My upbringing instilled in me a deep love, respect, and appreciation for the country lifestyle. A country boy at heart, I spent my childhood in Griffith, NSW. After completing high school, I pursued tertiary education in Sydney. After five years of study at Macquarie University, I graduated with both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Chiropractic. My fascination with city life quickly waned, I yearned for the country town feel, and in late 2006, I discovered Newcastle. Passionate about health and helping people live active lifestyles, my family and I run a well-established chiropractic practice in Hamilton South. David is a top rated Chiropractor in Newcastle.

Proud to Call Lake Macquarie & Newcastle Home

For many, including my own family, the Hunter is home; we live it, love it, and are proud of it. We deeply appreciate the lifestyle it offers, from its laid-back yet adventurous atmosphere, pristine beaches and coastline, untouched beauty in the national parks, to the tranquility of the largest coastal saltwater lake in the Southern Hemisphere, and the picturesque country charm of the Hunter Valley.

My wife, Kathryn, a primary school teacher, and I have called the Hunter home since 2006. We reside in Lake Macquarie with our three young children and take advantage of the abundant opportunities to explore nature around us at every chance. Kathryn has a keen eye for wildlife and portraiture photography.

My passion for photography, combined with my growing pride for our region, brings me immense joy in capturing and sharing images of the Hunter. I genuinely believe there is no better place to live and feel so privileged to call it my home.  I regularly showcase my work on Facebook and Instagram, sharing the stunning landscapes and moments that make our region special.
